This article tells us how BlackBerry owners are trading in their phones at record numbers in for the iPhone 4s which highlights RIM's (Research in Motion's service) struggles and Apple's expected success through the 4s.
Blackberry users all over the world have been left without Internet and instant messaging capabilities for days as RIM struggled to fix some problems they were having. This was causing BlackBerry users to contemplate whether switching on to another smartphone or not. During service outage of Blackberry, the Apple iPhone 4s was released which may have been a trigger for BlackBerry users to increase the number of trade-ins. Cazelle launched a national television ad
campaign that informed views of a buy-back program for old electronics, such as their older smartphones, which was probably another reason people were more likely to trade their phones.
RIM is currently offering no phones that have nearly enough demand as its competitors like the new iPhone 4s or the new Motorola Droid Bionic. The newest BlackBerry has performed poorly, so customers aren't running to buy the BlackBerry Torch when there's better phones on the market.
What does Blackberry need to work on related team roles and related terms to catch up with the other competitors? How high do you think BlackBerry and RIM value their teamwork during this devastating time? Do you think they could improve their teamwork to help the company out? If so, how?

To improve their market share, Blackberry needs to look at what the consumers are wanting. Many people are getting cell phones for entertainment purposes and for business reasons. Blackberry focuses on solely business, so maybe they should mix a bit of entertainment into their business designs. Blackberry should create product development teams who would focus on bringing Blackberry back up to par in the world of smart phones. They also need to come up with better task roles to carry out a new product to the consumer as well.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think that Blackberry and RIM value teamwork much. If they did, they would have been able to fix the outage quicker and communicate what they were doing to make Blackberry better. They both need to communicate more to each other and to the public. Having these good communication skills will help the company employees understand what and why they are trying to update and will also let the consumers know that they are trying to better their product.

A BlackBerry is a completely different phone compared to an iPhone or the different Droids. As having previously owned a BlackBerry and now owning a Droid, I am glad I switched over. The BlackBerry and RIM need to decide whether they want to stick with their original image of being solely for business or change their image to one like the iPhone or Droid where it is used for entertainment and business purposes. If RIM decides to change its original image they need to create teams to redesign the BlackBerry. By creating teams RIM will be able to redesign the BlackBerry more efficiently than if they left it to individuals.
ReplyDeleteIt does not seem like RIM values teamwork. The BlackBerry has not been on par with the original iPhone and is far below the newest iPhone. RIM should have used teams to redesign the BlackBerry after seeing the popularity of the original iPhone. One option for RIM would be to bring in a consultant to give them a sense of a direction on how to create effective teams. This would help RIM redesign the BlackBerry and again, increase the popularity of the phone.
